The best time to visit Andorra depends on your plans. Come from December to March for skiing, from June to September for hiking and warm days, and in May or October for quieter trips. The Caldea spa works in any season. Remember that the mountains are far colder than the valley, so check conditions for the exact area you’ll visit.
How Andorra’s Weather Works
Altitude matters more than the calendar. According to the CIA World Factbook, Andorra’s lowest point is 840 metres and its highest is 2,946 metres. The capital sits at about 1,000 metres, while ski areas such as Pas de la Casa are much higher.
Meteostat data shows Andorra la Vella averaging around 12.8°C across the year, with about 670 mm of rain and May as the rainiest month. January is the coldest month, averaging close to 4°C, and summer averages sit roughly in the low 20s. Higher up, it’s colder and snow lasts longer. For live forecasts, use Andorra’s official weather service, meteo.ad.

Treat this as a guide, not a forecast. Snow and rain vary from year to year. Our Andorra itineraries show how to match a plan to the season.
Winter: December to March
Snow is most reliable in January and February, according to long-term data published by the Ordino Arcalís resort. Pal Arinsal’s official FAQ gives 4 December 2026 as the planned opening for the 2026/27 season and 4 April 2027 as the planned closing, weather permitting. Ordino Arcalís has often been among the first resorts to open. Opening and closing dates depend on snow, so check the resort websites before you book. Peak periods include Christmas, New Year and the February school holidays, so book hotels and ski passes early.
Remember that driving can slow down in snow. From 1 November to 15 May, winter tyres or snow chains are mandatory on Andorra’s roads, according to the official winter mobility guidance. Our getting around Andorra guide has the details.
Spring: April and May
Spring is a shoulder season. Lifts usually close around early April, the valleys turn green, and some high trails may still hold snow. May brings the most rain, but the villages, Romanesque churches and the spa are quieter. Constitution Day on 14 March is a national day, so expect some places to close then.
Summer: June to August
Summer is the easiest time for hiking, because roads and cable cars are open. Around 23 June, the Sant Joan festival lights the valleys with falles, traditional fire torches, and UNESCO lists the Pyrenean summer solstice fire festivals on its Intangible Cultural Heritage list. July and August are warm in the valley and cooler at altitude. Pack a rain jacket, because afternoon storms can appear in the mountains.
Autumn: September to November
Autumn suits people who want quiet roads and forest colours. September to November is mushroom season, and some restaurants build menus around mushrooms, according to a published cuisine guide. Some mountain attractions have shorter hours or close until winter, so confirm before you go.
Best Months by Trip Type
- Skiing: late December to March, depending on snow.
- Hiking: June to September.
- Quiet trips and lower crowds: May, late September and October.
- Spa and shopping: any month, with winter evenings feeling especially good after the cold.
- Families: July and August for open attractions, or school-holiday weeks in winter if your kids ski.
Holidays, Ramadan and Crowds
Holiday dates change prices more than weather does. Christmas, New Year, Easter and the February school holidays are busy. Ramadan and Eid dates move about ten days earlier each year, and for 2027 they are expected in winter, which is ski season, so check demand for your dates. Daylight hours also matter if you’re fasting, since winter days in the Pyrenees are short and summer days are long. Ask your hotel about meal times in advance.
What to Pack
- Winter: a warm jacket, gloves, hat, waterproof boots and sun protection for snow glare.
- Spring and autumn: layers, a rain jacket and shoes with grip.
- Summer: light clothes for the valley, a fleece for altitude, sunscreen and a refillable water bottle.
Decision Guide
- Choose January or February if you want the most reliable snow and don’t mind crowds.
- Choose March if you want sun and snow together.
- Choose June or September if you want hiking without the peak summer crowds.
- Choose May or October if low prices matter more than full mountain access.
Common Mistakes
- Booking a ski trip too early or late in the season without checking snow reports.
- Dressing for the valley when you’ll spend the day at altitude.
- Assuming every cable car and lift runs all year.

When does it snow in Andorra?
Snow is most likely from December to March in the ski areas, with the heaviest falls in midwinter. Some snow can arrive earlier or linger later at higher altitudes.

Yes. Summer is hiking season, and the valley is cooler than Barcelona or Toulouse. Expect crowds in August.
What is the cheapest time to visit Andorra?
Prices are usually lower in May, October and November, outside ski and school-holiday periods. Compare your own dates, because prices vary by hotel.
