Best Time to Visit Pakistan: Month-by-Month Weather and Events

Pakistan's seasons month by month, which regions to visit when, and how Ramadan, Eid, the monsoon and winter smog change your trip.

The Short Answer

For most trips, September to November is the best overall season: clear skies in the mountains, autumn colours in Hunza and comfortable weather returning to the plains. For city sightseeing in Lahore and Islamabad, December to February is cool and pleasant. Pakistan is large, so the best time depends on where you go.

Pakistan’s Regions and Their Seasons

  • The plains (Lahore, Multan and the south): Very hot in summer, often above 40Β°C, with cool, pleasant winters. October to March is the comfortable season.
  • Islamabad and the foothills: Warm summers and mild winters, with rain during the monsoon.
  • The northern mountains: Mild summers and cold, snowy winters, with many high roads and passes closed by snow. The main travel season is roughly May to October.
  • The coast (Karachi): Warm to hot for most of the year, with sea breezes. November to February is the most comfortable.

Month by Month

  • January and February: Cool and pleasant in the cities, and very cold in the north. A good time for Lahore, Islamabad and Multan.
  • March: Pleasant in the plains, with the north starting to wake up as the snow melts.
  • April: Blossom season in the northern valleys, including apricot and cherry blossom in Hunza. Days start to get hot in the south.
  • May and June: Hot in the plains, and the high northern roads open. A good start of the trekking season for those with a licensed operator.
  • July and August: Very hot in the south. The monsoon, usually from July to September, can bring floods and landslides and close roads such as the Karakoram Highway. Check road and weather updates daily.
  • September: The monsoon fades, skies clear and the mountains look their best.
  • October and November: Autumn colours in Hunza and comfortable weather in the plains. This is often the best month to travel overall.
  • December: Cool in the cities, cold in the north and a quiet time for travel.

Ramadan and Eid

Ramadan moves about 11 days earlier each year, and in 2027 it is expected to begin around early February, depending on the moon sighting. In public, daytime eating is discouraged, many restaurants open only after sunset, and evenings are lively. Eid holidays follow, and they bring crowds, full buses and trains, and busy hotels, so book transport and rooms well in advance. Dates are announced locally, so check them closer to your trip.

Air Quality and Winter Smog

Lahore and other cities in Punjab can have heavy smog in the colder months, usually from around late autumn to winter. It can make the air unpleasant and affect flights and roads. If you are sensitive to air quality, plan your Lahore days for a clearer period and check the forecast.

Best Time by Type of Trip

  • City sightseeing and food: October to March.
  • Mountains and trekking: May to October, with September and October often the clearest.
  • Blossom: April in Hunza.
  • Autumn colours: October in Hunza.
  • Lowest prices: The hot months in the plains, although the weather is the trade-off.

Planning Around the Weather

Flights to mountain airports such as Skardu and Gilgit depend heavily on the weather and are often cancelled, so leave a spare day before an international flight. Landslides can close the Karakoram Highway during the monsoon, so build a flexible plan. A good travel insurance policy that covers delays and the regions you plan to visit is worth the cost.
