The best place to stay in Austria depends on your trip. Choose central Vienna for sights and transport, Salzburg’s old town for a walkable base, Innsbruck for mountain access, a lake town for a quieter stay, or an Alpine village for skiing and hiking. Book early for Christmas, ski season and summer festivals.

Halal-friendly and family notes
We could not verify which properties label their food as halal, so ask before you book. If halal food matters, choose an apartment with a kitchen, or check restaurant listings near your hotel. Vienna has the largest range of international restaurants because it is the biggest city. Families can ask about family rooms, cots and kitchen access when booking.

FAQs
Is it better to stay in Vienna or Salzburg?
Stay in Vienna if you want museums, music and a larger city, and in Salzburg if you want a smaller, walkable old town. Many trips include both, and the train between them takes about 2.5 hours.
Should I stay in Hallstatt overnight?
It is worth considering. After the day-trip buses leave, the village is much calmer, and early morning light is better for photos. Book early in summer because the village is small.
Do hotels in Austria include breakfast?
Many do, especially guesthouses and mid-range hotels, but not all. Check the room rate details, and ask whether special diets such as halal or vegetarian can be arranged in advance.
