Which Airport Do You Fly Into for Bahrain?
Fly into Bahrain International Airport (BAH). It’s on Muharraq Island, about 7 km from central Manama, and it’s the home hub of Gulf Air. The single terminal opened in January 2021. Flights have been disrupted in 2026 by regional conflict, so check your airline and the current safety advisories before you book.
Bahrain International Airport (BAH)
BAH is the only commercial airport for the kingdom. A drive to central Manama takes roughly 15 to 20 minutes, depending on traffic. Because the airport is so close to the city, hotel transfers are short.
| Airport | Where | Distance to Manama |
|---|---|---|
| Bahrain International Airport (BAH) | Muharraq Island | About 7 km |
| King Fahd International Airport (DMM), Saudi Arabia | Dammam, across the King Fahd Causeway | A longer cross-border trip |
Airlines Serving Bahrain
Gulf Air is Bahrain’s national carrier, and it flies to the Gulf, Saudi Arabia, the Indian subcontinent, Europe, Africa and East Asia. According to a Wego Travel Blog update from September 2026, Gulf Air was operating a full schedule from Bahrain at that time. Other carriers appear on the departures board, including Air Arabia, Air India Express and TAP Air Portugal. Some flights are codeshares operated by Gulf Air.
Schedules can change quickly, so confirm your flight directly with the airline. Don’t rely on a past timetable.
Flights Have Been Disrupted in 2026
Airspace closures in early 2026 affected Bahrain’s flights. Reports from that period say Gulf Air temporarily moved much of its operation to King Fahd International Airport in Dammam while Manama’s airport was effectively offline. The UK FCDO warns that flight cancellations and periodic airspace closures remain possible, and that in April 2026 airspace and the King Fahd Causeway closed at the same time. Keep your plans flexible.

Getting to Bahrain by Road
The King Fahd Causeway links Bahrain with Saudi Arabia. You need a valid Bahrain visa, and you need to meet Saudi entry rules too. The FCDO’s guidance says to check Saudi Arabia’s travel advice for the latest information, and the causeway has closed at short notice in 2026. Read our Bahrain visa guide before you plan a land crossing.
After You Land
Moving around the islands is a separate topic. Our getting around Bahrain guide covers buses, taxis, ride apps, car rental and rough drive times between the main sights. If you haven’t picked a base yet, read where to stay in Bahrain.
Time Zone
Bahrain uses UTC+3, and it doesn’t change its clocks. That makes jet lag easier to plan, since the time difference only shifts when your home country changes its clocks.
